Some important Proverbs-

1.Strike while the iron is hot. (मौका नहीं चूकना चाहिए)
2. Self-praise is no recommendation.(अपने मुंह मियाँ मिठ्ठू|)
3. If the sky falls we shall catch larks.(न नौ मन तेल होगा न राधा नाचेगी|)
4. He who digs a pit for others falls into it himself. (जो तोकूँ काँटा बुबै ताहि बोई तू फूल, तोकूँ फूल के फूल हैं, बाकूं  हैं तिरशूल |
5.A good face needs no paint. (रूप को अलंकार की आवश्यकता नहीं होती|/लाल गुदडियों में नहीं छुपते|)
6. A rolling stone gathers no mass.(डावांडोल की मिट्टी खराब)
7. Hunger is the best sauce. (भूख में किवाड़ भी पापड़)
8. See which way the wind blows. (ऊँट किस करवट बैठता है|)
9. An unhappy man's cart is sure to tumble. (कंगाली में आटा गीला)
10. Adversity is the touchstone of friendship. (विपत्ति मित्रता की कसौटी है|)
11. A bad man is better than a bad name. (बद अच्छा, बदनाम बुरा)
12. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.(नौ नगद, न तेरह उधार)
13. A guilty conscience needs no accuser. (चोर की दाढ़ी में तिनका)
14. Penny wise and pound foolish. (मोहरों की लूट, कोयलों पर छाप)
15. Everybody's business is nobody's business. (साँझे की हँड़िया चौराहे पर फूटती है|)

       जिन खोजा तिन पाइयाँ गहरे पानी पैठ,
         मैं बौरी बूढ़न डरी रही किनारे बैठ|
17. Christmas comes once a year. (हर रोज दिवाली नहीं होती|)
18. Better a tooth out than always aching.
19. Every sable cloud has a silver lining. (अँधेरे में भी आशा की किरण होती है|)
20. Deep rivers move in silent majesty, shallow brooks are noisy. (अधजल गगरी छलकत जाय, भरी गगरिया चुप्पे जाय|
21. Haste makes waste. (जल्दी का काम शैतान का)
22. Act in haste, repent at leisure. (जल्दी करो, जीवन भर रोओ|)
23.Kindness is lost upon an ungrateful man.(सांप को दूध पिलाना)
24. Little grief is loud, great griefs are silent.
       (बिच्छू का काटा रोवे, साँप का काटा सोवे|)
25. To have an old head on young shoulders. (पेट में दाढी)
26. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. (कांच के घर में रहने वालों को पत्थर नहीं फेंकने चाहिए|)
27. To swallow the whole ox and be choked with the tail. (गुड़ खाय, गुलगुलों से परहेज)
28. He gives thrice who gives in a trice. (तुरत दान, महा कल्याण )
29.  Money makes the mare go. (दाम सब कराता है)
30.  Necessity knows no law. ( आपत्ति काले मर्यादा नास्ति)
31. The nearer the church the farther from God. (दिया तले अँधेरा)

32. Out of the frying pan into the fire. (चूल्हे से निकले भाड़ में गिरे)

33. All your geese are swans. (अपना गधा भी घोड़ा मालूम होता है|)
34. Charity begins at home. ( अंधा बांटे रेवड़ी, फिर-फिर घर को देइ |)
35. A nod to the wise and a rod to the foolish.(चतुर को इशारा मूर्ख की पिटाई)
36. A low-born man feels proud of his honours.(कुत्ते को घी नहीं पचता|)
37.  Fortune favours the brave.(पुरुष सिंह जो उद्यमी लक्ष्मी ताकी चेरी|)
38. The wearer knows where the shoe pinches. (जिसका दुःख वही जाने)
39. Give an inch and he will take an ell. (अंगुली पकड़ के पहुंचा पकड़ना)
40. A good name is better than riches.(लाख जाय पर साख न जाय)
41. Too many cooks spoil the broth. (अनेक हकीम रोगी की मौत)
42. As the crow is so the eggs shall be.(चूहे के बच्चे बिल ही खोदते हैं|)
43. A wise foe is better than a foolish friend. (मूर्ख मित्र से चतुर शत्रु अच्छा )
44. First deserve, then desire. (यह मुंह और मसूर की दाल)
45. Handsome is that handsome does. (काम प्यारा है, चाम नहीं)
46. I talk of chaff; he hears of cheese. (कहे खेत की, सुने खलिहान की|)
