The Noun:Possessive

When a sign or a word or words show the possession of something the case is Possessive,as
This is Ram's book.
Kriti's father is a doctor.

When we show the possession of  something we have to use apostrophe (')
How to make possessive:-
(A)
1.Person का बोध कराने वाली Singular Noun के साथ 's' लगाते हैं| जैसे-
Ram's bag, the teacher's table, the doctor's clinic, the lawyer's office.
2.बड़े और अधिक संपर्क में आने वाले जानवरों के साथ भी 's' लगाते है| जैसे-
Elephant's trunk, horse's colour, lion's share, tiger's den, bull's horns, dog's tail.
Note- छोटे जानवरों या कीड़े-मकोड़ो के साथ 's' नहीं लगाते|
3. Personified objects के साथ 'भी 's लगाते हैं| जैसे-
Nature's laws, Fortune's favour, Death's sting.
4. उन lifeless objects के साथ जो समय, स्थान,दूरी, वजन या मूल्य का बोध कराते हैं, उनके साथ भी 's लगाते हैं| जैसे-
One day's leave, at week's end, at a stone's throw, by month's end, at a pound's cost, a minute's rest, at a yard's distance.
5.कुछ विशेष phrases  के साथ भी 's लगाते हैं| जैसे-
at arm's length, at fingers' tips, for heaven's sake, for goodness' sake
6.Double 's नहीं लगाने चाहिएं| जैसे-
This is Deepa's father's car.
इस वाक्य में double 's प्रयोग किये गए हैं, ये निम्न प्रकार होना चाहिए|
This is the car of Deepa's father.
यहाँ एक  possessive 's  से और दूसरा of  से बनाया गया है|
7.Church, cathedral, school, shop, house ऐसे शब्द हैं जो बहुधा possessive case के बाद छोड़ दिए जाते हैं, क्योंकि उनका बोध बिना लिखे हुए स्वतः ही हो जाता है| जैसे-
I bought this book from macmillan's. (shop is understood)
I am a student of St.John's. (School or College is understood)
(B) यदि Singular Noun  के अंत में कोई hissing sounds (स की आवाज) आती है तो केवल Apostrophe का चिन्ह (') ही लगाते हैं s नहीं लगाते| जैसे-
For conscience' sake, for justice' sake, Moses' laws.
Note- Keats's poetry या Keats' poetry अथवा Collins's poetry या Collins' poetry दोनों रूप ठीक माने जाते हैं|
(C) यदि कोई Noun Plural Number  में है और उसके अंत में s आता है, तो केवल Apostrophe चिन्ह (') लगाते हैं| जैसे-
Girls' hostel, boys' school, horses' tails.
(d) यदि Noun Plural Number  में है और उसके अंत में s नहीं आता है तो 's लगाते हैं| जैसे-
Men's club, Children's books.
(e) यदि कोई Noun या title कई शब्दों से मिलकर बनता है तो 's केवल अंतिम word के साथ लगाई जाती है| जैसे-
The Rana of Mewar's palace.
The Government of India's orders.
(f) यदि दो या अधिक Nouns अभिन्न रूप से सम्बंधित हों तो 's  केवल अंतिम Noun  के साथ लगाते हैं| जैसे-
This is Rajan and Rohan's office.
It happened during Hillary and Clinton's time.
(g) यदि दो या दो से अधिक Nouns अपना-अपना अलग-अलग सम्बन्ध दिखाते हैं तो 's प्रत्येक के साथ अलग-अलग लगेगा| जैसे-
Marlowe's and Shakespeare's Plays.
Sohan's and Mohan's houses.
(h) Possessive case by 'of''
(a) Inanimate things का  possessive 'of' लगाकर बनाया जाता है, 's लगाकर नहीं| जैसे-

Leg of a table
Lock of the door
Pages of the book.'
Nib of the pen
(b) छोटे जानवरों, कीड़ों- पतंगों या कम संपर्क में आने वाले जानवरों के लिए भी possessive के लिए 'of' लगाया जाता है| जैसे-
wings of a butterfly, sting of a scorpion, legs of a stag, etc.
(c)  जब possessive Noun किसी Clause या Phrase से qualify होती है तो भी possessive case के लिए 'of' लगाते हैं| जैसे-
These are the toys of the children who are sleeping.
The milk of the cow which is black.
(I) Double Genitives -कभी-कभी Double Genitives भी प्रयोग में आते हैं| ऐसे वाक्यों में 'of 'के बाद आने वाले Noun  में 's लगाते हैं, या of के बाद possessive Pronoun (mine, yours, theirs) का प्रयोग करते हैं| जैसे-
This is a book of mine.
Ram is a friend of Mohan's.
Tempest is a play of Shakespeare's.
Note- किन्तु ऐसे वाक्यों के  सम्बन्ध में यह जानना आवश्यक है कि इन सब में one of the (बहुतों में से एक ) का भाव निहित होता है| इसलिए उपर्युक्त वाक्य-This is a book of mine का अर्थ है यह मेरी बहुत-सी किताबों में से एक है| अतः जहाँ एक ही वस्तु का बोध कराना हो  वहाँ वाक्य का यह विन्यास (structure) प्रयोग नहीं करना चाहिए| इस प्रकार निम्न वाक्य उचित नहीं है-
He is a father of mine.
She is a mother of yours.
उपर्युक्त वाक्यों का अर्थ होगा कि He is one of my many fathers या She is one of your many mothers. इसलिए उपर्युक्त वाक्यों को निम्न तरह लिखना चाहिए-
He is my father.
She is your mother.

अंग्रेजी व्यंजनों के उच्चारण

अंग्रेजी भाषा में 21 व्यंजन हैं- B  C D F G H J K L M N P Q R S T V W X Y   Z ब  स ड फ ग ह ज क ल म न प क र स ट व व क्स य ज़ सामान्यतः इन वर्णों का उच्चारण वैसा ही होता है जैसा कि इनके नीचे दिए गए हिन्दी वर्णों का होता है| लेकिन जब हम किसी अंग्रेज को बात करते हुए सुनते हैं या फिर किसी टीवी चैनल पर कोई समाचार सुनते हैं तब हमें लगता है कि जो हम बोलते है वे  उससे अलग उच्चारण कर रहे हैं| अक्षरों का क्रम बदल जाने से उच्चारण में भेद  हिन्दी में जैसा बोला जाता है वैसा ही लिखा जाता है लेकिन अंग्रेजी में इससे विपरीत स्थिति है 'C' का उच्चारण - C के दो उच्चारण हैं-स और क  1. Degrees of Adjectives

Study the following sentences- 1. Meena is a clever girl. 2. Pinky is cleverer than Meena. 3. Shreya is the cleverest of the three. We see in the above sentences that Adjectives change in forms (clever, cleverer, cleverest) to show comparison. They are called the three Degrees of Comparison . Adjectives की तीन Degree होती हैं- 1.Positive Degree 2. Comparative Degree 3. Superlative Degree Positive Degree में किसी noun की विशेषता बताई जाती हयाई, उस विशेषता की Degree नहीं होती| जैसे- Vishal is a brave boy. Comparative Degree   में उस विशेषता की दूसरी degree बताई जाती है, और इसमें किन्हीं भी दो वस्तुओं के उसी गुण का तुलनात्मक भाव निहित रहता है| जैसे- Vishal is braver than Rohit.
