1.For-
(a) Indicates destination,
receiver of something, on behalf of, suitability, cure for a disease.
किसी स्थान के लिए रवाना होने के लिए, (मंजिल या गन्तव्य स्थान दर्शाने के लिए) किसी के लिए कुछ लाने के लिए या उपयुक्तता बताने
के लिए, उद्देश्य बताने के लिए-
1.He left for Delhi
yesterday. (destination)
2. I bought a pen for Maneesh.(receiver)
3. He signed the paper for his
brother. (on behalf of)
4.He sacrificed his life for the
country.
5. Walking is good for health.
(suitability)
6. The train left for Delhi.
7. I go for a walk daily.
(b) Indicates preparation (तैयारी बताने के लिए) liking, love, (पसंद या उपयुक्तता बताने के लिए), in exchange for (विनिमय या मूल्य के आदान-प्रदान के अर्थ में ) showing a period of time (समय की अवधि के लिए)-
1. He is ready for the match. (preparedness)
2. She has a taste for music. (liking)
3. He has a taste for dancing.
4. He bought this pen for ten rupees. (price)
5. Every man has a weakness for beautiful things.
6.. He has been living here for ten years. (period)
7. The climate of this place is bad for health.
(c) In search of (किसी की तलाश में), in support of (किसी का समर्थन करने के लिए), to the extent of (सीमा तक)-
1. He went abroad for a good job.
2. The people were for early elections. (in favour of)
3. The West Indies were all out for 150 runs. (extent)
4. We are leaving for Jaisalmer for a week.
(d) To indicate 'period of time' in the Perfect and Perfect Continuous Tenses
1. I have been reading for two hours.
2. He has been watering the plants for three hours.
(e) निम्नलिखित verbs के साथ-
wait for, hope for, ask for, pray for, search for, long for आदि
2. From:
(a) Indicates a starting point in time, place, order, person or position ( एक स्थान से दूसरे स्थान तक, एक समय से दूसरे समय तक , एक स्थिति से दूसरी स्थिति तक के लिए)
1. He is busy from three to five p.m.
2. She came from Jodhpur.
3.She works in an office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
4.The cap seller sold his caps from village to village.
5. He travelled from Jaipur to Udaipur.
(b) Indicates source (स्रोत बताने के लिए), separation (अलगाव बताने के लिए), showing reason (कारण बताने के लिए, showing the material used and changed (वस्तु के प्रयोग तथा रूप बदलने के लिए)
1. The teacher stopped him from going out of the class.
2. He is suffering from fever.
3. Butter is made from milk.
4.Flour is made from wheat.
5. These quotations are from Tagore.
6. Dalda is made from vegetables oils.
यदि वस्तु का अस्तित्व मौजूद न रहे तो from का प्रयोग होगा परन्तु यदि वस्तु का अस्तित्व मौजूद हो तो of का प्रयोग होगा|
The chair is made of wood. यहाँ लकड़ी का अस्तित्व मौजूद है|
(c) Showing difference, prohibition (अंतर या मनाही)
1. He differs in qualities from the rest of the students.
2. He will stop you from talking about him.
(d) Some other uses of 'from'
1. From my point of view this book will be very useful.
2. She comes from a poor family.
3. In:
(a) Shows a period of time during which something happens (समय की अवधि जिसमें कोई घटना घटती है,उसे बताने के लिए-
1.Answer these questions in fifteen minutes.
2. He will be married in April.
Before a period of time(for future) भविष्य की उस समय अवधि से पूर्व जितनी देर में कोई काम पूरा हो जाएगा| जैसे-
1. You have to finish it in a week.
2.I shall be ready in a moment.
(b) After a period of time.
1. He will come in the morning.
2. The bus will arrive at ten in the night.
परन्तु यदि इनके पूर्व सप्ताह के दिनों के नामों का प्रयोग हो तो on का प्रयोग होगा|
(c) Before names of the months, seasons and years महीनों, ऋतुओं व वर्षों के नामों से पूर्व -
1. I was born in 1984.
2. We took exams in March.
3. He was born in August.
परन्तु यदि time के पूर्व this/last/next/every आदि हों तो at/in/on का प्रयोग नहीं होगा|
(d) Used before the name of towns, cities, countries शहरों, कस्बों और देश के नाम से पहले-
1. He lives in Jaipur in Rajasthan.
2. He will stay in India for two months.
(e) Used for physical condition भौतिक स्थिति के लिए-
1. Do not go out in the sun.
2. He is in bad health.
(f) Used to show a position of rest.स्थिरता की अवस्था व्यक्त करने के लिए-
1.They were in the room.
2. They were in the playground.
3.His money was in his pocket.
(g) Showing job or profession (indicates membership or existence among a group)
1.He has been in indian politics for about 20 years.
2. He is in the Air-force.
3. Her father is an officer in the army.
(h) Indicates colour, material of thing or showing situation or condition.
1. Today Anushka is in Khaki dress.
2. She is in a very happy mood.
3. He is still in great trouble.
(i) Indicates medium of writing.
1.She signed in red ink.
2. This letter is written in red ink.
3. The announcement was in English.
(j) To indicate something in a surrounded place-
1. We live in India.
2. There are clouds in the sky.
6. The train left for Delhi.
7. I go for a walk daily.
