1.About-
(a) Around, on every side of, all round चारों तरफ, सभी तरफ-
1.They walked about the city.
(b) Nearly, near to लगभग या आसपास के अर्थ में -
1. There are about sixty boys in our dance class.
2. He will come back about Monday.
(c) Concerning, with regard to किसी वस्तु या विषय के बारे में-
1. They were talking about Reena's misbehaviour in the dance.
2. I am worried about Kavita.
(d) Before an infinitive, on the point of, in the act of किसी कार्य के शुरू होने के अर्थ में-
1.She is about to go to school.
2. The match is about to start.
2.Above-
(a) higher than स्पर्श किये बिना ऊपर-
1. The aeroplane was flying above clouds.
2. The birds were flying above the trees.
3. The kites are flying above the tree.
4. The sun rose above the horizon.
(b) Greater in number, weight, price मूल्य, संख्या और वजन में अधिक-
1. The temperature is above average.
2. It weighs above ten tons.
(c) Beyond, superior to or out of reach of परे, श्रेष्ठ या दूर के अर्थ में-
1. He is above jealousy.
2. His conduct is above suspicion.
3. Maduri is above fifty.
4. The President is above the Prime Minister in the country.
(d) Coming earlier(पहले आना/होना के सन्दर्भ में )
1.His name is above mine in the list.
3.Across-
(a) From one side to the other (in open place) ऊपर में खुले स्थान पर एक ओर से दूसरी ओर तक
(1) They went across the road.
(2) There is a bridge across the river.
(3) He walked across the field.
(b) On the other side of दूसरी ओर या उस पार
(1) Rinku's house is across the road.
(2) He spoke to me from across the room.
(3) She lives across the valley.
4. After-
(a) Later than, next in order or time बाद में, अगला-
1. He came after seven.
2. Put the verb after the subject.
3. Please see me after this period.
4. The students entered the room after the teacher.
(b) Behind (of places) बाद में, पीछे -
(1) Shut the door after you.
(2) He ran after the thief.
5. Along
(a) Keeping on a line or length, through any part of the length of किनारे के साथ-साथ -
(1) We walked along the road.
(2) There are trees along the river bank.
6. Among-
(a) surrounded by, in the middle of more than two.
दो या अधिक व्यक्तियों के बीच या स्थानों के बीच -
(1) Savita was sitting among her children.
(2) There is a village among the hills.
(b) showing inclusion or association (बहुतों में से एक होना)-
(1) I saw him among the crowd.
(2) Among those present was the principal of our college.
(c) Used for more than two persons or things- दो से अधिक व्यक्तियों या वस्तुओं के लिए (बंटवारा करने के लिए)
(1) The property was divided among the five brothers.
(2) Settle the matter among yourselves.
7. At-
(a) Indicates an exact point of time. समय के निश्चित बिन्दु के लिए (घड़ी का समय)
(1) The teacher came at ten.
(2) I am busy at present.
(3) He will come back at sunset.
(4) We had lunch at noon.
(b) Indicates point of age आयु का बिन्दु व्यक्त करने के लिए-
(1) He left school at fifteen.
(2) He succeeded at last.
(c) Indicates exact place like home, bus-stand, station, office, bank, school, college, small village etc.निश्चित स्थान बताने के लिए-
(1) He met me at the bus stand.
(2) He is at his office.
(d) Indicates direction दिशा बताने के लिए, used with the name of festivals : at Diwali, at Holi etc.
(1) He aimed at the bird.
(2) Neha laughed at me.
(e) Indicates rate or degree, price, number गति, विशेषण की degree और मूल्य बताने के लिए-
(1) He drives at full speed.
(2) Mohit is at his best.
(3) He is selling goods at a loss.
(4) He estimated the crowd at 1000.
(5) Bananas are sold hare at twenty rupees a kilogram.
(f) Indicates state, manner, activity अवस्था, तरीका गतिविधि बताने के लिए-
(1) They were at war with their neighbours.
(2) The children are at play.
(3) He is good at English but weak in Hindi.
(4) The ships are at sea.
(5) He is at work.
(6) India and China were at war in 1962.
